On Monday, Tejashwi Yadav, a prominent leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), accused the central government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), of failing to provide sufficient train services during the Chhath Puja festival in Bihar.
He expressed concern that people were being forced to travel under 'inhumane conditions'.
In a video statement, he claimed, 'The Railway Minister and other ministers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government have blatantly lied, stating that 12,000 special trains are being run for Bihar out of 13,000 during the Chhath festival.'
Promises for Employment and Support
Tejashwi assured the attendees of the festival that if the opposition alliance 'India' comes to power, they would provide employment opportunities in the state.
He stated, 'I promise everyone who comes to celebrate Chhath that next year, we will ensure they have jobs here, allowing them to celebrate the festival with their families in Bihar.'
Call to Action for Voters
He urged all visitors celebrating Chhath to enjoy 'Thekua', a traditional sweet offered during the festival, and not to return to their workplaces without voting.
He emphasized, 'They should vote for us, as we promise to provide a government job to every family in the state.'
Concerns Over Train Conditions
Tejashwi showcased videos of overcrowded trains, alleging that festival-goers were treated 'like animals' and were even forced to travel in train toilets.
He lamented, 'It is tragic that the people of Bihar, already struggling with migration under the NDA rule, cannot find adequate trains to return home for the sacred festival of Chhath.'
Statistics on Migration
Referencing government data presented in Parliament, Tejashwi noted that there are three crore registered migrants from Bihar, and if unregistered individuals are included, the actual figure could rise to nearly five crore.
